Roche Celebrates 10 Years of Partnering at Bio 2011
PR and media relations for BIO International Convention 2011
As one of the top “partners of choice” for business development, Roche was keen to showcase its expertise and approach to partnering and licensing at this year’s BIO International Convention in Washington (27-30 June 2011). Roche is also celebrating 10 years of partnering; therefore it was important to create momentum in 2011 for Roche at the BIO International Convention.
Objectives
- To ensure that the speaker panels Roche participated in during BIO were of high-quality.
- To ensure that Roche’s key messages in partnering were communicated effectively to stakeholders.
- To showcase examples of Roche’s collaborations with biotechnology companies and academia.
- To reinforce Roche as a partner of choice.
Our Approach
- College Hill Life Sciences, in collaboration with Roche Partnering, used traditional channels to guide initiatives around the BIO International convention.
- College Hill Life Sciences developed talking points and slides for three panel discussions.
- For Dan Zabrowski, Global Head of Roche Partnering on the panel “Secrets of the Big Pharma Dealmakers”.
- For Robert Silverman, Roche Global Licensing Director on the panel “The Partnering Conundrum: To Partner or Not to Partner, That Is the Question”.
- For Mark Noguchi, Roche Head of Global Alliances on the panel “Relationship Management: An Essential Key Enabler for Alliance Success”.
- For the three panel discussions, College Hill Life Sciences interviewed the Roche speakers and joined several conference calls with other panel participants to agree on the topics and ensure the key messages being developed were appropriate for Roche.
- Parallel to panel discussions, interviews with journalists from the trade press were set up for Dan Zabrowski, (Global Head of Roche Partnering), Mark Noguchi (Roche Head of Global Alliances), Robert Silverman (Roche Global Licensing Director) and Joe McCracken (Roche Head of Business Development).
- To support media interviews, College Hill Life Sciences developed talking points on Roche’s recent deals with Marcadia and reMYND, and Roche’s 10-year anniversary in partnering.
- College Hill Life Sciences also handled select media invitations at the Roche/Genentech reception during the BIO conference and supported Roche through media relations/interviews and logistics for the meeting.
Results
College Hill Life Sciences:
- Supported high-quality panel discussions.
- Secured interviews with the most influential trade media at BIO International Convention. Those media meetings served as background information to the journalists regarding Roche’s latest developments and resulted in feature articles.
- Provided PR and media support in managing the timetable around BIO for Roche partnering and provided on-site support.
- Produced a summary of the messages being delivered during the panel discussion “Relationship Management: An Essential Key Enabler for Alliance Success” for Roche’s internal use.
- Secured attendance of top journalists to the Roche / Genentech reception at the BIO conference, which included a special celebratory event dedicated to the 10-year anniversary of Roche Partnering.
Client Endorsement
Sharon Valdettaro, Communications Manager at Roche Partnering commented: “The BIO International Convention is one of the most influential conferences and an important date in the calendar for Roche. Co-ordinating and organising communications and media relations is a big task that requires strategic direction and input from many people. College Hill Life Sciences has successfully handled PR and media support for the conference, by producing top-quality talking points for our panel speakers, providing briefing notes for our interviewees and by securing interviews for Roche’s senior managers.”
