Jane Goodall Institute Recruits PR Talent to its UK Board of Trustees
London, July 2009: Sue Charles, Managing Partner at College Hill Life Sciences, has joined the Board of the Jane Goodall Institute, UK as Trustee.
JGI UK is dedicated to the prevention of the extinction of chimpanzees through conservation, research and education. With over 40 years of pioneering study, world renowned scientist, Dr Jane Goodhall, has revolutionised traditional thinking on chimpanzees and consequently changed perceptions on mankind. The Institute unites Dr Goodhall's scientific research with international advocacy on behalf of chimps and the environment. JGI UK's work supports ongoing education programmes in the UK (Roots & Shoots) and community conservation programmes in Africa.
While chimps share over 98% of their genetic material with humans beings, their numbers are dwindling in the face of a burgeoning human population. Hunting, loss of forests and illegal capture have confined wild chimps to one of only 3 regions on the planet; none of which can be sustained indefinitely due to tourism, habitat fragility and their increasing "trophy" status amongst hunters.
By liaising with local and national governments, the organization works to meet a number of objectives aimed at both protecting the animals and encouraging reinstatement to their natural habitat. 2010 represents the 50th anniversary of the start of Dr. Jane Goodall's ground-breaking research at Gombe Stream in Tanzania. Born in the UK, Dr. Goodall is Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, an ethologist and a UN Messenger of Peace.
Commenting on her role as Trustee, Sue Charles said, "I have a strong personal interest in conservation of animals in the wild and a huge admiration for Jane and her work. I am delighted by the opportunity to contribute to JGI's work toward chimp conservation in Africa and also education in the UK. 2010 is an exciting year and I look forward to helping towards raising the profile of JGI and to raising funds for our great causes."

About The Jane Goodhall Institute www.janegoodall.org.uk
Jane Goodall is one of the World's most famous scientists. Her pioneering study of wild chimpanzees, begun over 40 years ago in Tanzania, revolutionised how we think about both chimpanzees and ourselves. Her research in Africa continues to this day and is the longest field study ever undertaken of any group of animals in the wild. Today, however, Jane combines her scientific work with international advocacy on behalf of chimps and the environment.
Chimpanzees are our closest relatives in the animal kingdom. They are highly intelligent, social apes, found only in Africa. They share over 98% of their genetic material with us, communicate, and express many of the same emotions that we do. Sadly though, while the number of human beings inhabiting the planet continue to grow, chimpanzee numbers are falling.
Why not buy a present with a difference this year.
