EuroMedtech, 16-17 May 2011, Turin, Italy

EuroMedtech, Europe’s leading medical technology partnering conference took place this year at the Turin, Italy, at theTorino Incontra conference centre. Dr. Robert Mayer, of College Hill’s Munich Office, attended for both days. More then 200 companies from 27 countries attended this meeting with roundtable discussions, panels and 45 presentations by Medical Technology companies (including College Hill clients) seeking financing, licensing opportunities or partners for advancing their product development. Attending companies represented all parts of the advanced medical technology industry, from those serving mainline therapeutic categories such as orthopaedics and cardiovascular, through diagnostics, imaging and eHealth. 741 scheduled one-to-one meetings enabled the delegates to efficiently identify, meet and do business with attending companies, like at other EBD Group conferences (e.g. BIO-Europe).

Deutsche Biotechnologietage, 25-26 May 2011, Munich, Germany

The annual networking event for the German biotechnology industry took place in Munich 25-26 May 2011. Dr. Robert Mayer from College Hill’s Munich office took the opportunity to meet with clients and network with the German industry.

In continuation of the historic annual “BMBF Biotechnology Days”, BIO Deutschland took over the organisation and hold in May already the second edition of Deutsche Biotechnologietage, this year in Munich. This meeting with more then 600 participants has established itself already as the top German annual networking event for the biotechnology industry. The program included a program of lectures and workshops discussing topics such as promotion of biotechnology, entrepreneurship, financing and technology transfer and substantive issues in pharmaceutical, industrial and environmental biotechnology.

The Biotechnology Days 2011 in Munich were organised and carried out by BIO Deutschland, BioM Biotech Cluster Development GmbH and teams of the bio-regions, with the support of BMBF, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

BIA Summer Reception, 14 July, London, UK

Sue Charles, Dr Lynne Trowbridge, Nicole Yost, Jayne Crook and Daniel Gooch attended the BIA’s summer reception on the spectacular Dixie Queen, and enjoyed a scenic networking trip down the Thames on this luxurious replica of a nineteenth century Mississippi Paddleboat. It was a great opportunity to meet up with colleagues across London’s vibrant life sciences sector.

American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting, 3-7 June 2011, Chicago, Ill, USA

ASCO is the world’s largest oncology conference, and was held in June at McCormick Place in Chicago. The theme of the 2011 ASCO Annual Meeting, “Patients. Pathways. Progress,” was borne out in the scientific sessions in both the news that came out of the meeting and in the attitudes and philosophies espoused by this year’s presenters and honourees. It is impossible to summarize all of the new science and clinical updates presented at the Meeting – due to the sheer size of the meeting.

Rebecca Skye Dietrich attended from College Hill Life Sciences. Useful meetings were held with several new business prospects and also current clients. It is an important meeting to keep abreast of major scientific changes in the exciting field of oncology. This is what the organisers had to say about ASCO 2011:

BioEquity Europe, 23–24 May 2011, Paris, France

College Hill attended the BioEquity Conference in Paris this year.  The meeting was a very busy one for our clients, with 6 attending and/or presenting.  We provided full media support for them and organised meetings with the likes of SCRIP, BioCentury, Nature Biotech and BioPharm Insight.  From a new business perspective, we had meetings with 20 companies from which we have elicited some very interesting projects and leads for future work.  A good meeting overall and one we will be revisiting next year.

18th Annual EuroBiotech Forum, 24–25 May 2011, Paris, France

The 18th Windhover Euro Biotech Forum is a global partnering meeting with a high concentration of senior-level biopharma executives. Featuring the leading strategic minds, one-on-one meetings and presenting companies, the 2011 event was held at the Hilton Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France, May 24-25.

College Hill Life Sciences supported the Euro Biotech Forum by inviting delegates and promoting the event; Associate Partner, Nicole Yost, attended the event and chaired a company showcase session. Topics discussed during the intimate meeting included Key Trends in Dealmaking, Partnerships in emerging markets, Financing models and company case studies. One-to-one partnering meetings also took place during the event which coincided with the BioEquity meeting, also held in Paris May 23-24.

European Mediscience Awards, 22 June 2011, London, UK

At the 10th European Mediscience Awards Dinner this year, Melanie Toyne Sewell and Nicole Yost hosted a table on behalf of College Hill Life Sciences.  About 350 people attended the event and for the third year running, College Hill Life Sciences sponsored the “Most Significant Contribution to the Mediscience Sector” award,  This year, Wellcome Trust was awarded the prize in recognition of its commitment to translational research.  We were very pleased to support the European Mediscience Awards event and congratulate all the other award winners – a list of which can be found on the European Mediscience Awards website:

11th Annual Biotech in Europe Investor Forum, 13–14 September 2011, Zurich Switzerland

The annual Biotech In Europe Investor Forum from Sachs Associates is the leading event for companies looking for European (Swiss and German) venture funding. The conference also has a growing number of listed companies presenting to institutional audiences. College Hill has been a media sponsor of this event for a number of years and College Hill clients get a discount on the presentation fee. In its 11th year this year’s conference took place on 13-14 September 2011 at the Hilton Hotel Zurich airport. Over 70 Companies presented this year in seven sessions and Dr Robert Mayer from College Hill’s Munich office attended the conference and chaired one of these sessions. BIO International Convention, Washington, USA – 26–30 June 2011

The BIO International Convention is the largest global event for the biotechnology industry, offering networking and partnering opportunities with policymakers, scientists, CEOs and newsmakers, and hundreds of sessions covering biotech trends, policy issues and technological innovations. The Convention also features the BIO Business Forum, a unique platform for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, academic research institutions, and investors from around the world to gather and discuss strategic opportunities.

Hosted by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), this year’s event event drew 15,626 industry leaders from 48 states and 65 countries including industry leaders and public officials. The focus of the event included formal and informal networking, deal-making and high-level sessions. Managing Partner Sue Charles was in attendance supporting a number of clients in their media out reach. The top 10 largest international delegations included (in order): Canada, UK, Germany, France, Korea, Belgium, China, Japan, Spain and Australia.

The BIO Business Forum hosted a record breaking 21,183 partnering meetings between 2,410 companies and featured 157 company presentations. Sue was registered for the Business Forum and attended over 20 one-to-one meetings. The BIO Exhibition featured more than 1,800 exhibitors and covered 180,000 square feet with 61 state and international pavilions.

AusMedtech 2011, Sydney, 23-24 May 2011

AusMedtech 2011 is Australia's premier medical technology conference for medtech executives, providing business partnering opportunities for decision-makers. It brings together key stakeholders of the Australian and international medical devices and diagnostics sector, to discuss the major issues in global medtech success with a focus on emerging markets.

Special features of AusMedtech 2011 included a Medtech Investment Summit, Medtech Trade Exhibition and access to a world-class business matching program. Managing Partner Sue Charles was in attendance at the intimate one day event, meeting new prospective clients.

More than 230 people from 130 companies attended the conference which was organised by AusBiotech, a national industry group that represents members of the biotechnology, medical devices and diagnostics sector. Deputy Premier and Minister for Trade and Investment Andrew Stoner opened the conference, which is sponsored by the NSW Government.

During the opening address Mr Stoner recognised the significant role the medical device industry plays in the State’s economy, in addition to the obvious health care benefits. He also announced the NSW Government has secured hosting rights for, and will sponsor, AusMedtech in 2012. NSW is home to 45 per cent of Australia’s medical devices industry, more than three quarters of multinational pharmaceutical companies, and 27 per cent of core biotech companies.
