| Welcome
to the Northbank newsletter |
 |
|
A
limited survey recently carried out on behalf of Northbank
Communications identified that 57% of the respondents had
heard of us: not bad for a brand that is just 6 months
old, but
we
aim to improve
on this through this newsletter and other communications
vehicles. We trust you find our information useful. |
Six months into the merger of STMP Marketing with Charles
Consultants we can report positive news on many fronts –
we have expanded our client base with well know names such
as Tecan and Affymetrix, as well as smaller start ups such
as Akubio and Apatech. We have expanded our staff with Andy
Blank, in the web team and have two
new positions available.
To
accommodate our expansion in London we are moving on
15th May to
new larger premises in the prestigious Media
Centre – a dedicated community for PR, media
and communications companies. More...
Times
remain tough with many companies that make profits issuing
profits warnings and those companies that don’t still
finding fund raising hard and investors harsh. However as
we move through spring, the war is behind us and the concern
over SARS underlines the role that life science companies
can have in finding cures for new disease. We are seeing
glimmers that folks are looking up and forward, with the
smart companies now putting into place proactive communications
programmes.
Even if we have all been a little swamped by DNA 50 celebrations,
it is amazing just how much has been done in the 50 years
since the structure of DNA was elucidated and we can only
look forward to all participating in the developments that
will occur over the next 50 years.
Sue
Charles, CEO

The
50th anniversary of the discovery of the structure
of DNA by James Watson and Francis Crick was marked by
a series of bioscience community events organised
by the BIA. We worked with the BIA to suggest presenting
companies, target media and event venue, and on the day
Northbank wasthere to support its clients Solexa and Ribotargets.

Northbank's
corporate PR team handled the press relations for the first
largescale BioCapital Europe conference held in Amsterdam
on 8 April, which brought Benelux biotechs and investors
together. The conference was flagged up on several key
websites and journal listings, and through the members
of the Dutch and Belgian bio trade associations. Northbank
produced a conference report circulated to key media after
the event. More... |
|
In
providing investor relations counsel to its clients, Northbank
advises that companies build relationships with potential
investors well ahead of any funding need and keep them
informed of company progress – thus creating an audit
trail creating confidence that the management is delivering
on its promises and creating value. The recent upround
achieved by Cytokinetics, demonstrates the value of such
an approach. More... |

Northbank
has taken out a regular column in the Science Reporter, the
newsletter for the Association of British Science Writers
(ABSW). This will provide its clients with an unique opportunity
to feature their news in a journal reaching specifically the
UK’s science writers.

Northbank celebrates 50 years of the double helix |
|
Northbank Communications,
together with 10 of its leading clients celebrated what
is widely regarded
as one of the most important discoveries of the 20th Century,
the elucidation of the DNA double helix by Watson and Crick,
with an advertisement in Nature and a corresponding webpage.
To
mark this momentous occasion a full-page commemorative
ad was
commissioned for Nature’s special issue ‘Celebrating
the 50th Anniversary of DNA’. The ad focused on
DNA’s
dramatic influence on life science, and in turn how progressive
companies are now unlocking its secrets and reshaping
the future. Northbank teamed up with 10
of its leading
clients that are following Watson and Crick’s innovative
example, including Apatech, atugen, Cenix, Cobra Biomanufacturing,
Inforsense, Morphochem, Noxxon Pharma AG, Oxford Biomedica,
Solexa and The Automation Partnership.
